Fictional N2: 330 kg packed product minus 30 kg packaging gives 300 kg original product material. Add 120 kg transfer water for 420 kg slurry. Enter 300 kg once in the original-material account.
In the fictional N2 bridge, 330 kg packed product includes 30 kg packaging. Adding 120 kg transfer water to the 300 kg original product material gives the 420 kg receiver slurry record. These are successive states of one movement. Enter 300 kg once in this original-material account. All weights are after container tare.

A fictional processor has two records called by-product sale, an internal rework entry and several weights for one discarded batch. The task is to connect those records to the material movements they describe. The completed account has five distinct exits, one internal loop and one linked sequence of weight changes.

Set the account before adding the records

This original physical bookkeeping exercise covers one defined population of product material for one complete month, in kilograms. It is not a complete factory mass balance or an official food-waste methodology. Opening stock is 200 kg, new receipts are 10,000 kg and closing stock is 300 kg.

All stock, receipts and terminal outputs below use the same original-product-material basis. Here, original material means the product material before the later transfer-water addition described below. Its intrinsic moisture remains unchanged. Packaging and the added water are recorded separately in the weight bridge; this is the chosen basis of this fictional account.

Every quantity, record relationship and destination is supplied for the exercise. All five terminal outputs are distinct. Assume no unlisted flows, unmeasured losses, measurement errors or off-site rework. The fictional site's specialist approvals for its routes and rework are already in place. No classification, handling permission or safety decision is made here.

Preserve the two by-product sale destinations

Terminal means an exit from this month's defined material account. The row IDs below are reference keys. Read each commercial record alongside its given destination:

H1 · Finished-food dispatch · 8,550 kg · Human food.

H2 · By-product sale A · 400 kg · Human-food ingredient manufacture.

H3 · Surplus redistribution · 150 kg · Human consumption.

N1 · By-product sale B · 500 kg · Animal feed.

N2 · Discarded process material · 300 kg of original product material · Anaerobic digestion.

The two by-product sale records total 400 + 500 = 900 kg. Their shared invoice heading does not make their destinations identical: H2 has the stipulated ingredient-manufacture destination, while N1 has the stipulated feed destination. Keep both rows in this physical account. A single 900 kg sale line would hide that difference. The commercial label supplies no legal determination in this exercise.

Keep the 600 kg rework inside the finished output

The rework log records 600 kg moved internally and fully incorporated into H1's 8,550 kg during the same month. Link the log to H1 as supporting detail. There is no additional receipt or terminal exit for those 600 kg.

The five terminal rows total 9,900 kg. Adding the rework entry again would produce 9,900 + 600 = 10,500 kg of supposed terminal outputs. That would count the reworked material twice. Keep the movement visible in the account's notes without adding it to the terminal column.

Connect the packed product and receiver slurry to N2

N2 has a 330 kg rejected packed-product record that includes 30 kg of separately measured packaging. A linked record then shows 120 kg of water added for transfer. The receiver records 420 kg of slurry. All these weights are after container tare, and the product material's intrinsic moisture is unchanged.

Packed product 330 kg − packaging 30 kg = original product material 300 kg.

Original product material 300 kg + transfer water 120 kg = receiver slurry 420 kg.

These records describe successive states of the same N2 material movement. Enter 300 kg once in the original-material terminal column. Retain the 330 kg and 420 kg observations, with their packaging and water links, as the explanation for that entry. Neither observation is an extra terminal movement.

Replacing N2's 300 kg with the 420 kg slurry weight would make the terminal total 9,900 − 300 + 420 = 10,020 kg. The extra 120 kg is the stipulated transfer water, which lies outside the original-material basis chosen here. The bridge keeps that water visible rather than treating the weight difference as unexplained product material.

Close the monthly original-material account

Available original material: 200 kg opening stock + 10,000 kg new receipts = 10,200 kg.

Terminal original material: 8,550 + 400 + 150 + 500 + 300 = 9,900 kg.

Monthly balance: 200 + 10,000 = 8,550 + 400 + 150 + 500 + 300 + 300 closing stock = 10,200 kg.

Unexplained difference within the stipulated account: 10,200 − 9,900 − 300 = 0 kg.

The zero difference checks these supplied quantities and relationships. It does not verify actual records, establish a reportable food-waste total or demonstrate prevention or environmental benefit.

Carry the record relationships into the review

The useful result is the five-row account with H2 and N1 still separate, the rework log linked inside H1, and N2 linked through 330 kg, 300 kg and 420 kg. Before using this structure with real records, establish those row identities, linked weight bases and destinations. If a relationship is missing, leave it open for resolution rather than borrowing this example's zero difference.
