Corporate carbon inventory preparation
Nitium supports businesses across India preparing a corporate greenhouse gas inventory or improving an existing footprint’s documentation. We help compile Scope 1, Scope 2 and relevant Scope 3 categories within an agreed boundary using applicable GHG Protocol standards.

When this support is useful
-
You need a first inventory and are unsure which sites, activities and records belong in it.
-
A calculation exists, but the factors, units or assumptions are difficult to reconstruct.
-
The intended user needs an explanation of coverage, methods and outstanding data gaps.
Â
What we do
-
Agree the inventory purpose, organisational and site boundaries, period and sources in scope.
-
Organise activity records, retaining their units, periods and evidence references.
-
Document factor sources, versions and assumptions used in the calculation.
-
Compile agreed emissions calculations and keep relevant scope and method results identifiable.
-
Review documentation gaps and prepare the inventory handover for your team.
Â
What you receive
-
An emissions inventory for the agreed boundary and categories.
-
A calculation workbook with identifiable activity inputs and factor references.
-
A data-source and assumptions register.
-
A summary of data gaps and open decisions, with the handover format agreed at scoping.
Â
What we need from your team
Bring the organisational and site boundaries, inventory dates, fuel and energy records, any existing calculations, and relevant activity or supplier data. Tell us whether the request is corporate, facility-specific or product-related. Your team supplies source information and approves boundary and reporting decisions.
Â
How the work proceeds
-
Clarify: identify the intended use and the inventory boundary.
-
Scope: agree sources, categories, records, responsibilities and calculation outputs.
-
Prepare: assemble activity data and documented factors; retain allocation and estimation explanations.
-
Review and hand over: discuss exceptions, keep Scope 2 methods distinct where relevant and deliver the agreed calculation record with open gaps.
Â
What a reviewable inventory handover connects
Illustrative deliverable structure, not a completed client inventory: boundary decision → source list → activity record → documented factor → calculation line → result by scope and applicable method → open-gap summary. A reviewer should be able to follow an individual result back through these records. The two Scope 2 methods, where relevant, remain separate; they are not added together.
Â
Scope and responsibilities
This offer concerns corporate inventory preparation within an agreed scope. A corporate inventory does not itself answer a product-footprint question. Calculations depend on the available evidence and documented assumptions. Independent verification or assurance, certification, legal opinions and specialist scenario modelling are outside the service described here. No carbon-neutrality or reduction outcome is promised.
Â
Frequently asked questions
Are Scope 3 emissions included?
Relevant categories can be included in the agreed scope. Identify the business question, activities and available supplier or other activity data first; the scope should state what is and is not covered.
Â
Which factors will be used?
Factors need to fit the source, geography, period and applicable method. The calculation record should identify their publisher, version, units and selection basis; an unexplained default is not enough.
Â
What if an energy bill or activity record is missing?
Record the affected source and period, seek suitable evidence and document any proposed treatment. A missing value is not automatically zero, and any estimate needs an appropriate basis and review.
Â
Can you calculate a product footprint from our corporate total?
A product footprint has a different purpose and boundary. Describe the actual request before commissioning work; this page does not offer a product-footprint study.
Â
What do you need to discuss timing and scope?
Start with the period, entity and site list, intended use, available fuel and energy records, and any previous workbook. Timing and outputs are agreed after the dependencies are understood.

Helpful resources
Prepare a first Scope 1 and Scope 2 inventory
Use the collection checklist and find the activity-data workbook.
Â
Define the corporate inventory boundary
Resolve the entity, site and control questions before collecting totals.
Â
Keep Scope 2 methods separate
Avoid combining alternative electricity-accounting results.

Discuss your carbon inventory
Tell us the inventory purpose, period, sites and available activity records, plus any categories or calculations that need attention.
Â
A short, non-confidential outline is enough. Do not include confidential records or sensitive personal information in the initial enquiry.

Â
What affects the inventory scope and fee?
Â
The scope depends on the number of entities and sites, the inventory period, the emissions sources and Scope 3 categories included, and the work needed to organise activity records and document calculations. Improving an existing workbook is different from preparing a first inventory from fragmented records. For a quote discussion, outline the intended use, sites, reporting period, available fuel and electricity records, and any supplier-data needs. We agree the boundary, outputs and fee before work begins.
Â
Scope 3 supplier-data preparation
For the relevant Scope 3 categories in the agreed scope, we first clarify the business activities, category boundary, available activity or supplier data and the calculation method. The working record identifies data owners, reporting periods, units, source references, assumptions and unresolved gaps.
Where supplier information must be collected, agree the questions and coverage needed before treating replies as calculation inputs. A received reply is not automatically complete or suitable emissions data. See our supplier ESG data collection support.
