Reported water data

Updated: Oct 7
Keep water withdrawal, consumption and discharge separate when tracing a public disclosure. This collection contains 279 reported observations from 27 Indian issuers. It helps sustainability, finance and operations teams find source-linked examples and identify the method questions to ask before using a figure.
Edition: 0.6.0-sample1661. Selected metric periods: 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2026, with uneven company, year and metric coverage. Hub reviewed: 6 October 2026. The release sources were retrieved and selected rows checked on 5–6 October 2026; individual row timestamps are in the files. Original report-publication dates were not established. This frozen historical sample is not a live feed, representative sample, complete issuer inventory or claim of latest-year coverage.

What is in the water file?
The 279 rows comprise 62 withdrawal totals, 62 consumption figures, 48 discharge figures, 105 source-specific withdrawal observations and 2 recycled/reused-water observations. A reported withdrawal total overlaps its source components. Recycled/reused flows can describe water used again within a boundary and must not automatically be added to external withdrawal.
Retain the issuer’s withdrawal, discharge and consumption labels with the original units, reporting periods and boundaries. Do not treat a difference between reported totals as an unreported physical flow.
Nine teaching observations: a water balance can leave questions
The same nine teaching observations from edition 0.5.0 remain unchanged in edition 0.6.0. All nine displayed amounts retain the original unit kilolitres. The two-shipbuilder selection is purposeful and is not a representative subset or a performance comparison. Both CSL columns below are selected from its FY2024–25 BRSR; MDL’s values come from its FY2024–25 BRSR.
Cochin Shipyard Limited: 2023–24 comparative
Standalone CSL. These prior-year figures are the comparative column in the FY2024–25 BRSR, not values newly taken from an original FY2023–24 source.
Period: 2023-04-01 to 2024-03-31. Source edition: Cochin Shipyard Limited Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report FY2024-25.
Water withdrawal
Reported value: 623456.62 kilolitres. Printed p24 / PDF p24.
Water consumption
Reported value: 609744.62 kilolitres. Printed p24 / PDF p24.
Water discharge
Reported value: 13732 kilolitres. Printed p25 / PDF p25.
Cochin Shipyard Limited: 2024–25
Standalone CSL. The source says water is monitored internally. The operational boundary remains the standalone entity; these figures are not a consolidated group water account.
Period: 2024-04-01 to 2025-03-31. Source edition: Cochin Shipyard Limited Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report FY2024-25.
Water withdrawal
Reported value: 573954 kilolitres. Printed p24 / PDF p24.
Water consumption
Reported value: 557920 kilolitres. Printed p24 / PDF p24.
Water discharge
Reported value: 16034 kilolitres. Printed p25 / PDF p25.
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited: 2024–25
Standalone MDL. Consumption and discharge use assumptions and treated-water adjustments. The selected rows do not establish a separately resolved geographic boundary for these metrics.
Period: 2024-04-01 to 2025-03-31. Source edition: Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited Business Responsibility & Sustainability Report 2024-2025.
Water withdrawal
Reported value: 381718 kilolitres. Printed p37 / PDF p37.
Water consumption
Reported value: 77414.80 kilolitres. Printed p37 / PDF p37.
Water discharge
Reported value: 304303.20 kilolitres. Printed p37 / PDF p37.
Two different reasons to preserve the source numbers
CSL’s 2023–24 comparative: 623456.62 − 609744.62 = 13712.00 kilolitres, while reported discharge is 13732 kilolitres. The derived diagnostic withdrawal minus consumption minus discharge is −20.00 kilolitres. This identifies an unresolved arithmetic difference; it does not establish its cause or authorize changing a source value. For 2024–25, 573954 − 557920 − 16034 = 0 kilolitres. Arithmetic agreement alone does not prove matching measurement methods or independent assurance. CSL withdrawal and consumption, printed/PDF p24; discharge, printed/PDF p25.
MDL’s 2024–25 method: the source uses a consumption assumption and a discharge assumption, with additional treated-water adjustments. Its next-page note changes from assumed treatment operating hours for 2023–24 to actual treated volumes for 2024–25, with treated water assumed fully recycled and excluded for the discharge calculation. A simple, unadjusted 20/80 split would not reproduce the selected figures. Keep the figures and the method note together. MDL water table, printed/PDF p37; method note, printed/PDF p38.
A practical reuse checklist
Choose withdrawal, consumption, discharge or recycled/reused water deliberately. Do not treat them as interchangeable labels.
Match the entity, facilities, reporting dates, original unit and method. A shared kilolitre label does not make estimated and directly measured quantities comparable.
Keep water-source components and totals separate. Establish whether recycled flows, shared facilities, storage or routing boundaries explain a residual before drawing conclusions.
Use site and catchment evidence for a water-risk question. An entity-level volume alone does not establish water stress, discharge quality or regulatory compliance.
Record unresolved gaps neutrally. Absence from this selected numeric file is not proof that a company failed to disclose or comply.
Edition 0.6.0 downloads
The edition 0.6.0 archive contains D004-water.csv and D004-water.json, each with the same 279 observations, plus the matching dictionary variants and source, period, record, history and mandatory qualifications. It includes the other collections in the 1,661-record fixed selection. Formats and supporting tables add no records.
Previous edition 0.5.0 downloads and example support
The previous edition 0.5.0 ZIP contains D004-water.csv and D004-water.json, each holding the same 198 observations. Download the archive and extract the file you prefer. CSV and JSON are alternative formats, not additional records. Website search or interactive filtering is not provided on this page.
Open D004-water.csv in a spreadsheet using UTF-8 import. Keep reported_value as text if you need to retain the source’s trailing precision.
Filter company_id, period_start, period_end, metric_id and original_unit. Keep observation_id with every copied row so the selected fact can be traced without using its row number.
Read boundary, method, denominator_if_relevant, footnote_context and comparability_caveat before calculating. source_id, source_url, printed_page and pdf_page_or_html_locator identify the report and the location.
Keep source_history_status, version and the supporting dictionaries with the subset. Consult metric-definition-variants.json and data-schema.json inside the archive when a source uses a specific label or unit.
Source versions, missing values and reuse
The same observation can appear in an original report and a later comparative column. Its stable observation ID counts once. A changed source label, a restatement, a derived calculation or another file format adds no reported observation. Read the selected source and the paired history together; an absent history pair does not establish that a value is unrevised.
The numeric collections include explicitly reported numbers. Blank metadata, a dash, Nil, NA and not-tracked states are not silently converted to zero. An explicit numeric zero remains zero. The source may not define NA. History CSV uses the literal token \N for JSON null, while a genuinely empty raw cell remains empty; normal CSV metadata blanks mean unavailable or not supplied.
The teaching values above are attributed factual transcriptions with original explanatory analysis by Nitium Advisory. AI-assisted preparation and separate internal source checking do not verify the underlying company measurements or provide assurance. These issuers are not identified as Nitium clients or endorsers. Reports stay on issuer websites; the download grants no blanket licence over reports or third-party material. Preserve source attribution, units, locators and caveats when making a subset.
This fixed edition is corrected through versioned releases; new issuer reports are not incorporated automatically. A broken source link, amended report or changed method is a reason to review the affected rows. The release method file records source-specific access limitations, including City Union Bank’s direct-PDF availability caveat.
Use the evidence in your reporting workflow
